Asking for recommendations for the best Denver hotels is a little like asking for recommendations for a toothbrush. There are a lot to choose from, most people only need one at a time, and so few people truly have a proper basis for comparison.
Well, except me.
With hotels, I mean, not toothbrushes.
I’m Nate Hake, a Denver local and world traveler who has quite literally made it my job to find, visit, and compare the best hotels around the world. I know what different travelers like, becuase it’s literally my job to know. I’ve stayed in many Denver hotels over the years, and visited dozens more, so that I could put together this definitive list of the best hotels in Denver.
The post is very detailed, so if you prefer a quick summary, here are the topline winning hotels:
Alright, ready to see the full list? Here it is: the 27 best Denver hotels (picked by a local):

If I could only pick one hotel to recommend in Denver, without knowing anything more about your trip, I would recommend The Maven. It’s perfect for just about every type of Denver traveler. The Maven is situated smack dab in the center of town and offers super clean and comfortable accommodations that won’t require you to spend your entire vacation budget on a room. It’s also perched above Dairy Block, a hip urban micro district filled with bars and restaurants, as well steps from some of Denver’s best attractions like Coors Field, Union Station, and the RiNo arts district. The beds are extremely comfortable, the rooms offer a modern chic decor, and many have balconies perfect for relaxing and taking in the views of Denver. The prices are super reasonable too, especially when you consider the location and quality of this hotel!
Halcyon Hotel Cherry Creek
Located in the Cherry Creek neighborhood of Denver, the Halycon offers by far the most luxurious rooms and amenities of any hotel I’ve personally seen in Denver. Plus it sports easily the best rooftop pool in town. The folks behind the Halcyon strive to curate an experience that is less like staying in a hotel and more like having your own home in Denver. The contemporary rooms include thoughtful touches like functioning record players, Jonathan Adler bath products, and beds you can just melt into. You can also grab coffee or a glass of wine at each floor’s “Kitchen Table,” plus they literally and figuratively lay a welcome mat out in front of your door! Spring for the suites for a spacious apartment-style living experience, some of which come with private balconies complete with loungers. And don’t forget to stop by the Halcyon’s expansive rooftop bar, which is worth a visit for the views even if you’re staying in a different Denver hotel.
Built in 1891, The Oxford is not only one of the best hotels in Denver: it’s also an iconic landmark and historical site. Back in the 19th century, the hotel was a tourist attraction in and of itself, with visitors flocking to it to take a ride on the Mountain West’s first elevator. Today, you’ll notice artifacts of that storied history at every turn in the Oxford, whose spacious hallways had to be built wide enough to accommodate two women walking side by side in the era’s massive round petticoat gowns. The standard of service in this Denver luxury hotel hasn’t slipped a bit, and the historic rooms have been well designed to integrate touches of modern luxury. The location just a few meters from Union Station is perfect too. Oh, and be sure to head downstairs to check out The Cruise Room, the oldest bar in Denver, which served as an underground speakeasy during Prohibition.
Located in the upper levels of Denver’s historic Union Station, The Crawford is truly a one-of-a-kind hotel. The elegant rooms at The Crawford tastefully combine modern comfort with historic touches, like some of the original beams from the historic train station. You’ll be just steps away from the best of LoDo, but if you need to venture further around town, The Crawford offers a complimentary Tesla service. The luxurious suites are definitely worth the splash if you can swing it – they’re bigger than most full sized apartments in downtown Denver. Oh, and if you’re arriving via Denver International Airport, the train will literally drop you off at the Union Station lobby for your hotel!
Origin Hotel Red Rocks
Coming to Denver to see a show at the incredible Red Rocks amphitheater? You’re not alone – in fact, it’s our #1 thing to do in Denver, and one of the most incredible concert venues in the entire world. It is, however, located a bit outside of Denver in the town of Morrison. Which is where the rustic-chic Origin Hotel Red Rocks comes in. It’s the official hotel of Red Rocks, and by far the best located hotel in Denver for attending a Red Rocks concert. You’ll enjoy the super clean and comfortable modern rooms, plus an expansive bar and restaurant area downstairs which serves as the perfect pre-concert spot to grab a few libations or some grub. Plus, you’ll be just a few minutes from the show via a (separately charged) shuttle service.
👰 Looking at hotels in Denver for your wedding or special event? The Origin Hotel Red Rocks is a great choice, as it’s designed for large groups plus offers a serene getaway from the bustle of the city.

Kimpton Hotel Monaco
If you’re coming to Denver to do business, or for one of the many events at the Colorado Convention Center, then the Kimpton Hotel Monaco is the perfect choice for where stay in Denver. The location places you in walking distance of pretty much everything there is to do in Denver, but the hotel is conveniently located a block away from the noise of the 16th Street Mall. Rooms are stylish, modern, clean, and comfortable. Definitely also check out the breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, Panzano downstairs, which was one of my favorite places to entertain business guests and clients during my days working as a lawyer in downtown Denver.
Brown Palace Hotel
Staying in The Brown Palace Hotel means staying in a piece of Denver history. This historic Denver hotel originally opened in 1892, just over a decade after Colorado gained statehood, and at the time was celebrated one of America’s “first fireproof structures” (hey, fires were a big deal back then). Among other dignitaries over the years, it hosted the Unsinkable Molly Brown just a week after she survived the Titanic, as well as later visits by The Beatles and at least six US Presidents. Today, The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa is the place to stay in Denver if you want to be spoiled with luxurious amenities. Even if you aren’t staying in this Denver downtown hotel, be sure to check out the popular afternoon high tea series!
The Rally Hotel at McGregor Square
One of the newest hotels in Denver, The Rally Hotel occupies a prime location in the center of the newly-constructed McGregor Square, a complex of shopping, restaurants, and nightlife that neighbors Denver’s Coors Field (home to the Colorado Rockies baseball team). If you’re coming to Denver for a baseball game, The Rally is the obvious places to stay, as you’ll literally be about 30 steps away from the stadium entrance. Even if you’re just in town for business or pleasure, however, The Rally is a solid choice for its excellent location and new, hyper comfortable, rooms and dazzling rooftop pool.
I don’t know who designed the interior of The Ramble, but they definitely deserve accolades for putting together one of the most beautifully ornate interiors of any of the Denver hotels on this list. The Ramble is home to the first satellite location of the famous New York City bar Death & Co., and the 50 rooms are designed in opulent industrial revival style. If you’re a fan of gorgeous boutique hotels, this is one of the best you’ll find anywhere. Plus, you’ll be located in Denver’s hippest district, the River North Arts District (“RiNo”), and just steps from some of the best bars and dining in town (pro tip: check out the fantastic Work & Class across the street).
The Source Hotel
The Source, a collection of restaurants and retailers under one roof, is one of the most popular places to see and be seen on a weekend night in Denver. So, of course, The Source Hotel is one of the most stylish boutique hotels in Denver, Colorado. The 100 modern urban-chic rooms are clean, sunny, and tastefully designed. You’ll enjoy incredible amenities like a fitness center and a rooftop pool and hot tub. Plus, The Source Hotel is a great dog-friendly hotel in Denver.
the ART, a Hotel
The ART hotel is undeniably one of the most unique Denver hotels on this list. Located just steps away from the Denver Art Museum, staying in this Denver hotel will make you feel like you are actually staying in the museum. Every wall or surface is adorned with another mesmerizing piece of curated art (I especially love the 22,000 piece LED display by Leo Villareal). The rooms are hyper modern, very clean, and spacious. You’ll also love the location just steps from the Colorado Capitol, and the stylish bar and mezzanine. Definitely the best hotel in Denver for art lovers!
Kimpton Hotel Born
Hidden in a corner behind Denver’s historic Union Station, Kimpton’s Hotel Born is the place to stay for those who appreciate understated elegance and fine service. The rooms’ industrial chic décor does a great job of capturing the Mountain West spirit of downtown Denver. If you want a Denver hotel that is in the center of it all, but still offers a quite retreat to escape to at the end of the night, stay in the Hotel Born. Oh, and definitely be sure to check out the rustic fare at the hotel’s esteemed Citizen Rail restaurant.
The JW Marriot Cherry Creek
When President Barack Obama visited Denver in 2012, he chose to stay at JW Marriot Cherry Creek, which ought to tell you something about the standard of service at one of Denver’s best luxury hotels. As you would expect from the brand’s name, every detail of this lavish hotel is managed to perfection. Many of the 196 rooms offer views of the Rocky Mountains, and all are within a few steps of the many dining and nightlife options in the Cherry Creek neighborhood.

Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center
If you’re in town for an event at the Colorado Convention Center, the Hyatt Regency is just a three minute walk away and definitely one of the most popular (and largest) convention center hotels to consider. You’ll find spacious rooms, a solid fitness center, and a popular rooftop hot tub. Plus you’ll probably be staying right next to many other attendees at whatever event or convention you are visiting Denver for!
Omni Interlocken Resort
If you’re visiting Denver, but would rather staying in a relaxing retreat just a bit out of town, consider the spectacular Omni Interlocken Resort. Located next to the expansive Interlocken Golf Club, this Broomfield hotel draws rave reviews for its multiple pools, mountain views, and tranquil setting against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. You’ll probably need a rental car to be able to get around, but there is free parking and the hotel is well positioned for mountain day trips or jaunts to Boulder, all without being too far from Denver itself.
The Jacquard, part of the Autograph Collection, is the perfect Denver Cherry Creek hotel for high energy trend setters. The star attraction is the dazzling rooftop pool, which offers incredible views of the Rocky Mountains. Guest rooms are tastefully designed in modern décor, and suites even come equipped with their own Peloton bikes. The hotel also offers out its house Tesla if you need to take a quick trip somewhere.
Hilton Garden Inn Denver Union Station
If you’re just looking for an affordable Denver downtown hotel that checks all the boxes – clean, comfortable, well-located – then the Hilton Garden Inn Union Station is probably the best budget hotel in Denver. As you would expect from the Hilton Garden Inn brand, the clean rooms at the hotel focus on functionality and practicability. It’s a great Denver hotel for families, groups, or anyone looking to stay centrally without breaking the bank. Best of all, it’s situated perfectly just a few blocks from Union Station, Coors Field, and all that Denver has to offer.
The Westin Denver International Airport
I generally wouldn’t recommend staying at Denver International Airport (“DIA”) for most Denver visitors, since the airport is located pretty far from the city center with very little else in the area. However, if you just need a hotel for a layover at Denver International Airport, if you’re coming for a business meeting or conference there, or if you have an early flight out, then the Westin Denver International Airport is by far the best hotel near the Denver airport. The fantastic glass structure making up the hotel is built right into the airport itself, and the modern rooms are the perfect place to relax and get cleaned up before your flight.

The Curtis – A Doubletree by Hilton Hotel
One of the best hotels in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center, The Curtis is a fantastic option if you want a unique and fun boutique hotel that is relatively reasonably priced. The coolest thing about this hotel are the various “hyper themed” rooms, such as the Ghostbusters suite and Donkey Kong room. You’ll also find rooms dedicated to Barbie, Talladega Nights, and Star Trek to name a few. The Curtis definitely takes the cake for the most unique hotel rooms in Denver!
Le Meridien Hotel
One of my personal favorite places to go in Denver for sunset drinks is the spectacular 54thirty rooftop at the Le Meridien hotel in downtown Denver. I can only imagine how incredible it must be to stay in one of the westward-facing rooms that share those incredible views of the Rocky Mountains at sunset. No matter what room you’re in, though, you’re sure to love this super modern and stylish hotel. It’s just steps from the Colorado Convention Center, the 16th Street Mall free shuttle, and some of the best restaurants and dining the Mile High City has to offer.
Few names scream 5-star luxury quite like the Four Seasons brand, and the chain’s Denver outpost is no exception. Situated in a perfect location just around the block from Larimer Square, the Four Seasons offers some of the most luxurious accommodations in the Mile High City. For a special treat, try to a room with a mountain view.
A hotel that many still remember as the former Playboy Club, The Warwick is definitely one of the best Denver hotels if you’re on a budget but looking to stay somewhere central and classy. Located in the popular Uptown neighborhood, the Warwick is walking distance to downtown, Capitol Hill, and just about anywhere else in the city center. Most of the rooms offer balconies, an amenity which is honesty a rarity in most other Denver hotels these days, plus the rooftop features an awesome pool with views for miles.
The Westin Denver Downtown
The Westin Denver Downtown may not be the newest hotel on this list, but it’s still a solid choice for a quality hotel in the Denver city center. The location at the Tabor Center is perfect for business travelers, and it’s just a short free ride on the mall shuttle to the Colorado Convention Center. You’ll also be just a few blocks away from some of the best things to do in Denver, like Union Station, Larimer Square, and Dairy Block.

Hyatt Place Denver Downtown
If all you need is a clean modern hotel with a solid location in the center of Denver, then Hyatt Place Denver Downtown could be the right hotel in Denver for you. Prices are pretty reasonable, considering the inclusion of amenities like free breakfast, a fitness center, and free Wi-Fi access (which, sadly, many hotels charge for these days). It’s also a pet friendly hotel if Fido is one of the guests who will be joining you on your Denver vacation or business trip.

Aloft Denver Downtown
Another hotel in Denver that belongs to the Marriott family, the Aloft Denver Downtown is a hotel I’ve personally stayed in several times becuase it offered the right combination of price, cleanliness, and location. With free Wi-Fi for guests, a fitness center, and a location near the Colorado Convention Center, the Aloft is a great mid-range hotel for business travelers visiting for meetings downtown, or leisure travelers who want an affordable hotel near downtown Denver.
The Hotel Indigo is one of the more understated Denver hotels on this list, but it’s a quality choice and you sure can’t beat the location just behind Denver’s iconic Union Station. Guests give the hotel staff high marks for the quality of service, the rooms offer all the amenities you’re likely to need, and you’re walking distance from some of my favorite bars and restaurants, like Woodie Fisher, Ultrea, and The Terminal Bar. Definitely a great choice for one of the best hotels near Denver Union Station!
This is probably the most controversial Denver hotel on this list: in their reviews, guests either love it or absolutely hate it. NATIV is really only one of the best hotels in Denver for those looking to splash around a little money, party, and have some noisy fun in downtown Denver. Located just a few blocks from Larimer Square, NATIV does have an awesome location. But, on the weekend, you can find a popping bar and club in the basement. The nightclub is not quiet, and you will definitely hear the noise in your room, so do not choose this Denver hotel unless you are specifically in town for clubbing and partying.
