Crochet club members join with Shotts group in new partnership

Kind-hearted members of a crochet club have seamlessly joined forces with a community group in Shotts.

Salsburgh Crochet and Chatter donated a number of shawls for older adults who attend Getting Better Together (GBT) at the Shotts Healthy Living Centre.

And it was smiles all round as club members joined GBT volunteers in handing out hats and blankets which will help various groups in the town.

The partnership has delighted crochet club members.

Margaret Rusk told Lanarkshire Live : “We have helped various charities in the past such as the neonatal unit at Wishaw General, Women’s Aid and donating items to a school in Malawi.

“We were delighted to be asked to contribute and with Shotts just being up the road it’s great to be part of it.

“There are currently 18 of us in the group and we all just love it. The friendships that we have make the difference to us.

“I lost my husband and if it hadn’t been for the girls I would have really struggled.”

Catherine Carson, from GBT, was delighted to welcome the crochet and chatter club.

“Moving forward we will be doing a variety of different events with the ladies,” said Catherine.

“It’s very exciting for us and the shawls that have been given to the adults here are stunning.”

Among the initiatives the ladies have been doing include a Halloween night at Salsburgh Church Hall and a visit from North Lanarkshire Provost Jean Jones in November.

Club member Nancy McCann said: “It has been good to do some classes with the kids and we are hoping the young ones will enjoy it.

“We have a lot of fun doing it.”
