Tottenham Hotspur just can’t keep out of the headlines.

It started out as a summer of speculation with the search for a new manager following Jose Mourinho ’s April sacking leading to several bumps in the road.

Talks broke down with both Paulo Fonseca and Antonio Conte, while Gennaro Gattuso, Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter were briefly linked, before Spurs were left to settle on former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Then Harry Kane kicked up a storm. His training no-show caused a stir as the Tottenham captain pushed for a move away amid reports of interest and a £100million bid from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy took his usual stubborn stance, refusing to entertain any hopes his star striker had of seeking pastures new on a personal hunt for silverware. The Sun claims Kane was angry with Levy over his reluctance to strike a deal with the Premier League champions.

With the transfer window drawing to a close and City deterred by Levy’s resistance, Kane was left with little choice but to knuckle down, publicly declaring his commitment to the north London club. But just when the dust looked to have settled, the drama spilled into the new season.

Three unspectacular wins on the bounce saw Tottenham sitting pretty atop the Premier League table early on despite a misfiring Kane leading the line. Then the wheels came off.

A string of lacklustre displays and poor results have since seen Tottenham plummet and Nuno swiftly sent packing, four months into his two-year deal.

With Levy forced to compromise on his stringent demands, Conte has agreed to steady the sinking ship at the second time of asking despite his heavy links to Manchester United. So where does all this leave us now?

Only days into the Conte era and the early signs are already looking promising. After a stuttering start to the season, Kane is reportedly delighted at the prospect of playing under Conte and is believed to be keen to commit his future to Tottenham. For real, this time.

The feeling coming out of the club is already different with players, fans and Levy alike fully aware of what a coup Conte is. The Italian coach is a serial winner having achieved success wherever he has gone, claiming league titles with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Regarded as one of Europe’s elite on the managerial scene, Conte will bring quality, composure and calmness to a club that have found themselves swirling in chaos over the last few months. It’s no surprise Kane is happy once again.

Having put the anger aimed at Levy over the failed transfer fiasco behind him, the England captain can turn a corner under Conte. After all, greatness recognises greatness. Kane will no doubt acknowledge the allure Conte brings and his signing, after initially refusing Levy’s proposals due to a lack of financial promises in the transfer market, will be an added bonus.

The early signs coming out of Tottenham are positive and promising

Kane must surely know that Conte wouldn’t have taken the job had he not been assured of a spending spree in January and new squad additions at Spurs under the guidance of the masterful Conte look to have set Tottenham back on the perilous path to a trophy once more.

Now Kane has his man in charge, it really is time for last season’s Golden Boot winner to knuckle down and add to his solitary Premier League strike so far this season. If this talented group led by the talismanic Kane can pull together in the same direction under an even more talented manager in Conte, the future could be very bright at Spurs indeed.

It’s time for Tottenham to hit the headlines for all the right reasons.
