Brendan Rodgers tipped to make key Cristiano Ronaldo decision at Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo could be forced out the door at Manchester United if Brendan Rodgers is appointed.

United are looking for a new manager having sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a 4-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday.

Rodgers is among the names in the conversation to become Solskjaer ‘s replacement along with Zinedine Zidane, Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.

Rodgers has been at Leicester City since February 2019 and has overseen two fifth-placed finishes and has won the FA Cup for the King Power Stadium side.

Former Chelsea and West Ham United striker Carlton Cole reckons Rodgers will take over from Solskjaer.

He has also been tipped to make a key decision on Cristiano Ronaldo, whose return to United in the summer has become a big topic of conversation.

The 36-year-old came back to Old Trafford to a hero’s welcome but has only scored once in the Premier League since September 19.

“Leicester fans are going to hate me for this one but I feel Rodgers could go in and I feel he would be the right man for the Man United job,” Cole said on talkSPORT.

“Get rid of Ronaldo, he’s (Rodgers) going to have to usher him out.

“The reason why, because if you have someone like Brendan he wants to build for the future.

“They’ve got a few prospects in that team that have not even played yet, very good players, and there’s talk of Jude Bellingham coming in as well.

“You’ve got to plan for the future – is Ronaldo the future of Man United?

“We know how he wants to play, Brendan Rodgers, he loves the high press, he loves the high energy, working off the ball, he loves that.

“He’ll eradicate the players that are not fitting into that formation or system, he has to otherwise he’s going against his own morals.”
