BIGSTONE National School took great pleasure in receiving their second Active Schools Flag in last year’s final term.

here was great excitement in the school as gymnast Roisín O’Toole came to raise the flag. Roisín also gave a talk to the senior and junior rooms on her career in gymnastics to date and her accomplishments are outstanding.

Roisín is part of a three person gymnast team, and pupils were delighted to be shown pictures and an impressive video of the routine the girls performed in the European Championships. Roisín answered lots of questions and encouraged the children to try out different sports and see which ones fit them best.

Bigstone School is a two-teacher co-educational school, located in the parish of Baltinglass, about 5km from the town. The active walkway has been introduced to the school to promote exercise and activity while on break times, teachers have also incorporated the walkway exercises to include maths games.

The senior room pupils in Bigstone National School watch RTÉ news2day on the RTÉ Player! each day. When the children were informed October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month they put their caring and thoughtful minds together to achieve a common goal. The pupils approached the teachers with a plan of action, ‘Go Pink Day’, which saw pupils, teachers and staff wearing pink as a sign of respect, kindness and awareness to those who are affected by cancer. Their efforts ended up raising €170 for the cause.
