Liverpool fans were in agreement with Gary Lineker after he gushed over Mohamed Salah for always playing “with a smile on his face”.

The Egyptian netted his 22nd goal of the season as Liverpool came from behind to beat Newcastle 3-1 on Thursday night and once again close the gap to table-toppers Manchester City to a solitary point.

Jurgen Klopp ‘s side found themselves behind early on when former Red Jonjo Shelvey caressed in a long range effort, before Diogo Jota bundled in an Anfield equaliser.

Salah then pounced on a rebound to put Liverpool in front before a Trent Alexander-Arnold thunderbolt secure all three points for Klopp’s men late on.

In yet another dazzling display, Salah showed a number of clever touches and was a constant thorn in the Magpies’ side, but it was his evident love of the game in particular that caught the eye of former England legend Gary Lineker.

The Match of the Day host took to Twitter to note: “Love watching Mo Salah play. Wonderfully imaginative footballer who plays with a smile on his face….then again, so would I if I was that good.”

He then added: “I’m not sure it’s a good idea to score an early goal against Liverpool at Anfield.”

And it appears Lineker wasn’t the only onlooker to find satisfaction in seeing a Premier League footballer looking so happy and grateful to be playing the game they so dearly love.

One fan responded: “Agreed Gary. So many of us would give anything to do what these players do (and what you did) and have to play out our dreams on a Sunday morning! It’s nice to see pros smiling as you get a sense that they appreciate how lucky they are to do what they do.”

Others expressed their agreement, adding that Salah, who has already netted 15 goals in the Premier League this season, is “something different” with further claims that he is the best player in the world.

One supporter wrote: “Agreed. He is something different this season, very tough with some magic and lethal, he is different… Literally from out of this world,” with another Liverpool fan adding: “One of the best players I have ever seen, it’s real joy and entertainment watching him play football.”

And it wasn’t just Reds fans who were quick to back up Lineker’s claims, with a fan of fierce rivals Manchester United also admitting it’s a privilege to watch Salah take to the pitch.

The Red Devils’ supporter wrote: “He’s so good. Best in the world at the minute. Such a pleasure to watch, and I’m a United fan.”

The Egyptian’s strike on Thursday night was a record-equalling one, as the forward made it 15 successive Premier League matches in which he has either scored or assisted, equalling the tally of Jamie Vardy.

Having seen Salah create more history, Klopp was another piling on the plaudits.

“That’s quite amazing that,” the German said of the striker’s latest landmark. “His assists are as important [as the goals].”
