Manchester United have been told Frenkie de Jong would be the ideal replacement for Paul Pogba should the Frenchman leave Old Trafford.
With the January transfer window on the horizon, the midfielder will be able to enter pre-contract talks with clubs across Europe from the start of 2022.
No indication has yet been given on where Pogba stands, although rumours have been abound throughout his time at United of a move to Real Madrid.
The Barcelona star has been linked with w move to United previously, and former Liverpool and England forward John Barnes believes he’d fill Pogba’s shoes perfectly.
“Frenkie de Jong would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United,” Barnes told BonusCodeBets.
“It looks like Paul Pogba is on his way out of the club so bringing in a replacement for him is very important. Especially if that person is a young and talented player who will get the opportunity to be one of the main players at the club.
“He has everything in terms of passing range, intensity and a great attitude. It’s exactly what Manchester United need in midfield.
“That was their plan with Donny van de Beek, but of course he’s been stifled by other players in his position playing better than him.

“However, bringing de Jong in and putting him straight into the side and being trusted would be good for both Manchester United and him.”
With Barcelona facing financial difficulties, De Jong is one of the many players who has been linked with a move away as the Catalan club look to raise funds.
Having signed a deal until 2026 last year though, the Dutchman would not come cheaply should United want to pursue him.
