Antonio Conte says he expects Hugo Lloris to sign a new contract, despite Tottenham’s interest in Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
With Lloris entering the final six months of his contract, the Spurs captain has been linked with an exit as the North London club keep a close eye on Henderson’s situation.
The England international is seen as a possible successor to the French World Cup winner, who turned 35 last month.
But, speaking after his side’s 1-0 win over Watford, Spurs boss Conte insisted that he expects Lloris to stay with the club beyond the summer.
“I am sure in a short time they can find a solution because he loves Tottenham and Tottenham loves him,’ said Conte.
“Hugo today showed he is a top player and always focussed. For us he is very important.”
Lloris went largely untroubled during the clash at Vicarage Road, but came up with a vital save to deny Josh King with the deadlock still intact, before Davinson Sanchez struck deep into stoppage time to earn Spurs a win which takes them back above United in the Premier League table.
“For sure, you can see the level of the goalkeeper in these circumstances,” Conte added.
“We showed solidity so he didn’t have to make a save until that shot but he showed he stayed focussed.
“The link between a goalkeeper and the rest of the team is very important. You need that connection when you defend high. The goalkeeper has to follow the game, not only staying on the line to make saves.
“I have spoken to Hugo about it and he did very well.”
