Leeds United have dealt a transfer blow to Liverpool after making their stance over selling Raphinha perfectly clear, and the Reds could now move for another winger
Liverpool’s attempts to find new options in attack during this month’s transfer window could lead them abroad after they suffered a blow in their pursuit of Leeds United’s Raphinha.
The Anfield club have been widely linked with a move for the Brazilian winger, who has impressed Kop bosses.
But Leeds have made their stance on a move this month perfectly clear.
That news means the Reds could now ramp up their pursuit of Luis Diaz, the highly-rated Porto forward; however, the Colombia international would command a big fee, and with Porto not keen to sell yet, they may have to wait until summer.
It comes as the club’s Covid crisis continues ahead of their FA Cup tie this weekend.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.
FA Cup message
Liverpool have been told they will almost certainly have to play their FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury this Sunday, it has been claimed.
According to reports, the FA have sent a letter to all Premier League clubs saying FA Cup third round ties will be going ahead this weekend regardless of Covid outbreaks.
It comes after the Reds’ Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Thursday night was postponed following a number of positive Covid tests in the Liverpool camp.
With Jurgen Klopp and his assistant Pep Lijnders and a number of first-team players now isolating for the Reds, it means a much-changed side may need to be fielded for the Anfield tie.
Leeds United have made their stance on Raphinha leaving Elland Road perfectly clear – and have ruled out selling him during this month’s transfer window.
The news will come as a blow for Liverpool, who have reportedly been tracking the winger for some time.
And in a further blow, Leeds plan to now sit down with the Brazilian to hold a second round of contract talks with him in a bid to wrap up his long-term future.
Diaz transfer gains traction
The Reds have plenty of reason to be optimistic in their pursuit of Porto winger Luis Diaz this month.
Diaz has already played at Anfield this season and impressed as he caused right-back Neco Williams problems all evening.
The winger was clearly Porto’s star player on the evening and his performance got many Reds fans excited at the prospect of him turning out in red at Anfield in the future.
And with the club said to be following Diaz ahead of a move this month, the Reds have four big reasons to be confident of sealing the signing.
