How Greater Manchester’s latest coronavirus rates compare with rest of the country

Coronavirus infection rates have fallen in five boroughs in Greater Manchester, according to the latest data.

Wigan continues to have the highest rate in the region, with 2341.3 cases per 100,000 people – but numbers have dropped compared to the previous dat.

Meanwhile, Manchester has the lowest, with an infection rate of 1895.7 infections per 100,000 people.

Middlesbrough has the highest rate in the England, up from 1,904.7 to 3,111.4, with 4,396 new cases.

Of the 377 local areas in England, 155 (41%) have seen a week-on-week rise in rates and 222 (59%) have seen a fall.

Data for the most recent four days (January 8-11) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

The figures, for the seven days to January 7, are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid in a lab-reported test, plus, in England, positive rapid lateral flow tests that do not have a negative confirmatory lab-based PCR test within 72 hours.

Data for the most recent four days (January 8-11) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.
