Why Bolton Wanderers could have fresh right flank partnership vs Ipswich as Ian Evatt drops hint

Ian Evatt is in no doubt that Marlon Fossey and Gethin Jones can play at the same time for Bolton Wanderers.

Jones has been the club’s first choice right-back for much of the past 18 months, aside from injury and a stint at left-back last season to accomodate Peter Kioso on the opposite flank.

Wanderers have strengthened that area of the pitch in January with the acquisition of Fossey on loan from Fulham for the rest of the season.

Fossey has started the last two Bolton matches at right-back and has impressed on both of those occasions, while Jones has at last returned from a fractured fibula.

For the final half an hour of the 2-0 loss at home to Wycombe Wanderers, Jones and Fossey were both on the pitch at the same time.

The duo worked well together down the right flank against the Chairboys, and Evatt has dropped a hint that the duo could both start for Wanderers ahead of this weekend’s clash against Ipswich Town.

Asked if the duo can play together, Evatt said: “I think so. I think at the moment they both need to be in the team because they give us energy, they give us some pace, they give us some intensity, they give us some good quality.

“I thought second half in particular against Wycombe they linked up really well.

“When you’ve got that athleticism that they both have, you’re going to cause teams problems and I thought they combined and worked together really well.

“Some of the positives from tonight (vs Wycombe) were them two, Kieran Lee I thought was excellent again and Dion (Charles) flickers, moments, them moments will get better and stronger as he gets fitter and stronger.”
