Preparation for Maisie’s successful second began lengthy earlier than she was even born, when headteacher Kim and her husband Duncan travelled to America and Brazil on a quest to enhance their Dachshund bloodline.

Maisie’s grandfather was bred with an American Dachshund, and he or she is now one in all 20 particular canine dwelling with the couple at dwelling.

“I work on it every week, making sure it’s clean and well-brushed. Wire haired Dachshunds have to be hand stripped, which involves pulling a few hairs out each week,” Kim mentioned.

Maisie’s beautiful coat and strange color impressed the judges when she received Best in Show.

“Exercise is really important. There is a balance to be had. You’ve got show them at the right weight,” she defined.

Kim knew Maisie would reach canine exhibits from the second she arrived into the world along with her litter.

“You can just tell. Of course you don’t know how good they’re going to be but Maisie just has something about her. Always the pushy and forward one which gave her the edge,” Kim mentioned.

“Top winning dogs are the ones that have that sparkle. I can’t say what it is but you can just see it in their eyes when you look at them.”

Kim describes Maisie as affectionate, nosey and cussed and says she loves being centre of consideration.

“The more people applaud, the more she enjoys it. She’s a showman,” Kim mentioned.

This 12 months, Kim is coming into 4 canine into Crufts and says it prices £35 per canine to enter.

“Crufts is THE show to go to. It’s the ultimate dog show internationally – so from that point of view, it’s not very expensive for the status and level at all,” she mentioned.
